Guadalupe-Blanco River Trust Preservation Matters

Guadalupe River Basin Monitoring Network

The Guadalupe-Blanco River Trust, Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA), Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has partnered to launch the Guadalupe River Basin Monitoring Network. The program will be administered by the Trust, a tax-deductable 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the U.S. Geological Survey will provide technical assistance and over see the on-site monitoring of the stations. The next step is for the Trust to continue their outreach and to identify sponsors and other resources in support of the installation and ongoing maintenance of new water quality monitoring stations in your community.

The goal of the Network is to create "real time" monitoring stations throughout the Guadalupe River Basin to determine existing baseline water quality conditions and monitor for changes. The benefit of public/private partnerships will allow for continual monitoring of water quality in the basin’s rivers and streams. With a real time monitoring station we are able to address many problems early on, and hope to minimize a negative effect on the environment and the people.

The Guadalupe River Basin Monitoring Network will be a system of water quality monitors in streams and rivers in the Guadalupe River Basin that collect data at regular intervals, some as often as every 15 minutes. This data will be used for flood-control planning, water quality regulation, and to allow the partners in the system to detect water quality events in near-real time. Accessing such data allows agencies to take immediate action to remediate problems, thereby minimizing the impact to the environment and people of the area.

The Guadalupe River Basin Monitoring Network is currently seeking sponsors. Tax deductible donations and other resources are needed to support the installation and ongoing maintenance of new water quality monitoring stations in their community. The Guadalupe-Blanco River Trust, a 501 c(3) non-profit organization, will accept and administer all funding of the monitoring stations in this network. Monetary donations from multiple sponsors can be combined to establish a site that benefits multiple partners.
